Nelson Elementary has a host of superhero working for them. One specific, Emily Rizo, scored a perfect score on last year's SBAC Reading assessment. She wasn't surprised either, "I worked hard to make sure I had a perfect score," Rizo said.
Families and students watched as students came to the front of the assembly to receive their pin for meeting the standard, or their medal for exceeding the standard. Last year's 5th graders also received pins and medals for their performance on the CST Science assessment. The students scored 72% proficient and advanced on the test. Many students who don't usually receive academic awards were honored today, said Mr. Palmer, 5th grade math and science teacher.
Nelson school hosted Superhero day, a theme they will use all year. Teachers, students and even parents, wore superhero t-shirts today in honor of the event.
"We know that our teachers are superheros," said Principal Duncan, "but today we are also honoring our students who are super."
