Nelson's kids experienced a different type of Dr. Seuss Day celebration as they traveled around the world and had cultural experiences from other countries.
Nelson students meet the Promotoras de Salud in Action on Nelson's Field each Tuesday after school to work toward their running goal. Students have fun and exercise!

Nelson Elementary dedicated their Walk to School event to Sgt. Michael Geske, a Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy who supported events at Nelson School, and who passed away in April.
A member of the Whittier community, Sally Miller, graciously offered to purchase new shoes for 55 Nelson students. She made her donation through the organization Shoes that Fit.
Nelson Elementary held a "super" assembly Friday in honor of the students who performed well on the 2016 SBAC and CST state assessments. The highlight of the event was the presentation to Emily Rizo, who received a perfect score on the SBAC Reading assessment. She was the only student in the district scored a perfect percentage on the assessment.

It seems the school year begins earlier and earlier. This year the first day of school is August 9th. School starts at 8:00 a.m., students should arrive by 7:50 so they can find their class assignment and say hello to friends they've missed over the summer. We look forward to seeing you on August 9th.
